Welcome to Los Gatos

A quaint city at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, built on deep historical roots

With a population of 33,000, Los Gatos is a small historic town situated near Silicon Valley’s bustling economy. Nestled at the base of Los Gatos and the Santa Cruz Mountains, it is a natural haven in its greenbelt areas and one of Santa Clara County's oldest communities. Local Lifestyle

Los Gatos supports over 3,000 businesses while maintaining its small-town feel. Its location away from large cities, like San Francisco, makes it a perfect place to experience big city life without living in it. Its residents' services, from the active town council to the open park areas and community events based in LGS recreation and the Los Gatos Library, make everyone here feel welcome.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Residents reserve a table at Manresa, a restaurant with three Michelin stars, a seasonal chef’s tasting menu, and unique wine pairings for fine dining. For a lively night out, Charley’s Bar Los Gatos has a variety of nightly music and dance events, such as live tribute and cover bands, karaoke, and salsa lessons. Residents also enjoy the dive bar Black Watch located downtown.

The Promenade at Los Gatos is a hot spot in summer, where residents enjoy live music on Santa Cruz Avenue on Thursdays. The Town Plaza also hosts live music such as Jazz on the Plazz. At the Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn is the concert series Music in the Park, with a fun lineup of live music every Sunday all summer long.

Things to Do

Those living in Los Gatos have many options to fill the day. A visit to Vasona Lake County Park is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, as its 45-acre lawn provides versatility for activities such as soccer, frisbee, and softball. Or residents rent paddle boats and row boats to ride across the lake or find a spot to fish for bluegill, crappie, black bass, and catfish. As part of a connecting parkway, people enjoying Vasona Lake can also visit Oak Meadow Park’s carousel and lawn space and hike, run, or bike the multiple-use trail that follows Los Gatos Creek for 9.5 miles.

Los Gatos knows how to celebrate the winter season too. In December, the city hosts a Christmas Parade and a tree lighting with a photo opportunity with Santa for younger folks. For fun year-round, residents visit the Los Gatos Farmers’ Market and peruse the seasonal selections of fruits, vegetables, and other fresh foods on Sunday mornings at the Town Park Plaza. Or, for a day in, residents watch a movie at Los Gatos Theatre, a historic site in the city that has been standing since 1915.
